Mailing Solutions
The ongoing goal of the
United States Postal Service is to improve its service to postal customers.
Since the early 1980s, the USPS has changed its sorting and distributing
methods from manual and mechanized to mostly automated. It is estimated that
sorting 1,000 letters through automated equipment saves up to $36 compared with
processing the same mail using older, less efficient methods.
In a joint effort with the mailing industry,
the USPS has developed standards for designing and addressing the mailpiece. These new standards provide a way to optimize
the processing capability of automated equipment through improved address
quality and preferred mail piece design.
